About Share Fest...
"Go and Do Likewise" Luke 10:37
Since the early 1980”s, Faith has raised money at our annual Harvest of Blessings Share Fest for the ELCA World Hunger Appeal and recently for local hunger causes as well. Last year we raised over $15,000 by selling crafts, baked goods, silent auction items, food, and children’s activities and through matching funds.
Why do we do this? Almost a billion people around the world go to bed hungry every night and many people in our own community cannot afford to feed their families. Following Jesus’ command, “Go and do likewise,” a group of volunteers works year round to prepare items for sale and organize the event.
In 1981, taking a program idea from the American Lutheran Church Women education materials, Women of Faith launched the first "Share Fair." The plan was to bring garden produce and preserves to their "regular" meeting, sell them and give all the proceeds to world hunger through the ALC Hunger Appeal. The idea grew as the planning proceeded and by Share Fair Day, October 30, Women of Faith had an exciting church festival with garden produce, baked goods and hand-crafted items to sell, demonstrations on ethnic foods, quilting, woodcarving, wheat weaving and Christmas tree ornaments. Faith’s Bread for the World chapter served home-baked bread and provided information concerning hunger in the world. Delicious homemade pies were served in the Mary Circle "pie shop" and the Chancel Choir provided a lunch of Sloppy Joes. Over $2,000 was raised for world hunger that day, beginning a tradition that has continued for thirty years, with over $275,000 raised!
We also depend on you to donate craft, food and silent auction items and other necessities. With out the generous support or the members of Faith Lutheran church, Share Fest would not exist. Each year our donations and volunteering make this event happen.
How can you help?
1) Make a craft item - either by joining our crafters at church or
working on your craft project at home.
2) Share a craft or food demonstration
3) Donate items for the fish pond and for game prizes
4) Provide baked goods
5) Donate items for the silent auction
6) Help set up, take down or work at the event
7) Most importantly, come and experience it!
Watch the bulletin and the E-News for information on how to sign-up or items you can donate. We are challenged to look at the many blessings we receive and find ways to share our bounty, as individuals and as a congregation!
